Update -> Stitches or Butterfly Bandages?

After posting here on SITO I did one more good cleaning and redressing of the wound with tight butterfly sterile strips. It took 4 of the large ones and a bit of shaving to get it to hold right. Then I bandaged it up good, called around to find a walk-in clinic that would take my credit card and would see me right away and I saw a doctor. He was amused with my story and impressed with my first aid.

Unfortunately after about 9 hours stitching an open wound becomes a bad idea. After removing the outer bandages he took one look at my butterflies and said "good job". He cleaned the area around the wound slapped a Tegaderm (fancy transparent bandaid?) on me, wrapped it up and told me not to shower for as long as possible(?) It was $67 for his reassurance/medical opinion, but I'm glad I did it. I won't have to wonder if I did the right thing anymore.

I think once I realized how gnarly the gash was, but also realized that I had escaped without any damage to the ligament I was kind of in denial about how bad the gash itself was. "A mere flesh wound" so to say. I hope there won't be any lingering effects other than a nasty scar and funny story to tell. (knock on wood)

All told, I am left limping with a sore knee. The docotr says it will be at least a week before I am back to not limping. It does make a difference in my ability to pick up odd jobs (my current approach to covering the bills) but may force me to spend more time on the computer. Perhaps I will finally get around to updating my website and finish some other projects that I have been neglecting for far too long.
