I hate to break it to you Jon but the handgun was a very minor weapon used in taming the west, as the handgun is a very minor weapon used in all wars. If you wanted a symbol of the taming of the west an old rifle would've been a lot more appropriate. Handguns were used in cowboy on cowboy killings and not much else.
