that reminds me of the time we had to rebuild some of gridcosm from users *web browser cache directories* after a crash! back in the old days, we had a very unstable backup system and not very good data-structure, and things like that would occasionally happen. it was not fun.

i remember when we had about 200 (i forget the exact number) pieces in hygrid, we completely lost the datafile and had to try to reconstruct the twisty, crazy, mazy pattern only from memory and a directory full of hygrid images. i believe, somewhere in hygrid, there are a few conjoining pieces we knew were wrong together but just couldnt figure it out. wow. the old days...
