It's a metaphor about Gridcosm meltdown and societal breakdown. TV commentators have been moaning about societal breakdown lately. The solution offered by politicians is religious morality. Pat Robertson and his gang. Imagine a sanitized version of Gridcosm used as a visual aid in Bible school... Jon and Ed would probably be in a jail somewhere on charges of hacker terrorism.
