wow! thanks sunny for all the info. i never knew. what i *do* know is that the libjpeg on sito *fails* to read lossless jpegs from photoshop (and others?). i dont know who is to "blame", but thems the facts. perhaps i need to try to trap this and not allow them to be uploaded. brent, as for the colors, i think if you set the jpeg quality high enough the colors should be good. things start mudding up when lower quality is used. in the end, all 9 images (for the record) get turned into one big jpeg, so your individual piece may get its quality lowered slightly (i think i set quality at 85 or 90%) as it gets sucked into the universe of the grid.
