I don't need to go see a psychiatrist, I need to visit a sociologist. I'm just no good at office politics. Untitled Document <www.utexas.edu> I can't touch BAZ's lithography. In that particular medium (and others) he is without question a superior artist. But I'll stack my hundreds of Gridcosm squares against his any day of the week. Particularly the stuff he's done in the last three years. I'm his equal on Gridcosm, whether he's willing to admit it or not. Taking all of my shortcomings into consideration, I'm his peer. SNY, the quality of your work has declined of late to the point that I was beginning to breathe down your neck. But I'm sure you'll rebound soon. Composition is problematic just as light and shade are problematic. Most levels have a dozen different impossible light sources. Perspective is problematic. Giant ameboa in the background, tiny humans in the foreground. Tinted classic art rubbing elbows with layered cartoons and grotesquely altered photos. It's hard to imagine taking it seriously. It's like a collage being created by a handful of people, some of whom are unaware of what others have in mind. An occasional prankster will play dumb to subvert and poke fun. Then someone will try dynamic opposition where harmonic convergence was expected. Who is to say what's wrong and right? I'll admit composition is arguably the most important aspect of collage (although eventually some innovative artists explored other issues such as texture) but Gridcosm is way beyond collage. You're giving people an opportunity to perceive art in new ways. Light and shade are defied, yet the level somehow feels right anyway. It feels right, that is, IF YOU LET IT. Get past your school learning for a minute and just let the level feel right. If the perspective feels right, then I'm satifisfied. If the composition feels wrong, I'm unhappy. I don't care if the technique is perfect, I'm unhappy. This is not deconstructionism. There's nothing to deconstruct. Post-deconstructionism? Dear lord.
