I much prefer levels done entirely by seperate people too - when they work together, and it's not just a patchwork... which is why I dont do more than one tile per level, although it is tempting sometimes :) With regards to letting go of an ego, blendyness also seems to involve stepping aside, and letting somone else draw the focal point for the level - not every square needs something exciting happening; sometimes it's all just too much going on at once...
