I would love to watch TCA and his method and if I were allowed I would poliutely ask with as calm an interruption as possible:

" Why are you doing that?"

" Why are you placing that square there - and why do you not choose to exert even a smal bit of effort to blend?"

I have chalked it up to style. TCA has his own anti-style and it is grating and at times hideous - yet - it is there. He is collaborating even in his anti-collaborationa.
