It was supposed to look like this. The difference is pretty subtle. But it mattered enough to me that I wasted a couple of hours trying to track down what went wrong. Write it off as a learning experience, I guess.

BTW, can Photoshop 6 read XCF format? That's GIMP's native format. Nothing on the Mac OS side of my somewhat-out-of-date G3 can read it.
