I added the text ''monday, 10.22.2001, panic day @ dc[?]'' to the OBEY image.

I did that on Sunday night, feeling some dread of anthrax news and rumors, wondering how DC would react in the morning.

I went to bed and dreamed I was at a Bob Marley concert (not being a huge fan, this is weird).

I woke up in the morning to hearing yells and screams on my 3rd floor apartment building's hallway. The lights are off, no electricity. People are trapped in the elevator panicking and people are yelling to them to communicate.

My first thought was that we have been attacked again - plane drops from the sky kind of thing - I put on my clothes, grab my cameras and run down the steps to document the war scene.

Outside is traffic jams and horns beeping. I ask around and it seems that yet another DC manhole cover has exploded.

whew! that's all.

This happens a lot in DC - the pressure underground (much like the emotional tension in the city right now) builds until a blast of steam blows the lids sky high and jolting all the subterrainian electrical wires out of sockets, thus a dozen or so blocks north of the White House went dark.

No big deal - just another day of a city whose neglected infrastructure implodes on a regular basis :-)

but, i did name that piece 'monday, 10.22.2001, panic day @ dc[?]' on a psychic whim - just wanted ya to know!
