So I read about this technique for sharpening photos the other day . .

Step 1. Take the layer of the image you wish to sharpen and duplicate it.

Step 2. Apply the "High Pass" filter to the top image; a 3-9 pixel range usually works.

Step 3. Now, in the layer pull down menu choose "Soft Light". If it's too sharp adjust the opacity.

Of course you could use unsharpen mask but this is much coooler
