I can record .wav files but they sound less than great (sampling?) and are HUGE! I know that MP3's are a cleaner, smaller file type - But I am unfamiliar with the software used to produce the files. Any suggestions?

The main question is: Photoshop is to Graphics as ??? is to Audio?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
