I am of the attitude that part of the responsibility lies with THE AUDIENCE. Whether I am writing, drawing, or playing music, sometimes it's important that I get something out of it...after all, it's an exercise in MY creativity. But many times, part of the reward is knowing the audience is getting something out of it. An appreciation. An understanding. A moment of shared experience. Now, if they find my work repulsive, uninspired, incomprehensible, offensive, or unworthy of attention, well...then that's just as good. At least they looked at it.
