Could it have been Jack Hamm? He has a very nice set of books on drawing. The pictures in the books have a 50's look to them, but the tips and techniques are not limited to any one style.

His landscape book was what finaly jammed the basics of composition and visual flow through my thick skull. (Now if I can just apply it...)

Anyway, I enjoy your drawings. There is an economy of line that I like. And there is a mood to them that is very pleasant.
