Kimono Gold Women's Fashion as Social Statement Detail | | Details: | Title: | Kimono Gold | Size: | 9 x 13.5" | Media: | Mixed media on masonite | Date: | 2005 | | | About This Piece: | This mixed media collage is the third in a series of artwork created about Women's Fashion as Social Statement. It is customary in Asian kimono-wearing cultures for the fabric, color, sleeve length, and the details of the obi and how it is tied to vary according to the wearer's age, social status, marital status and season. This collage was created from many layers of highly textured, imported papers, metallic paints, a type of natural glitter that comes from a stone indigenous to the state of Maine (and other areas), a photo transfer, walnut ink, cloth and other ephemera. The metals in the paint give an iridescent effect that bounces the light across the varying shades of copper, gold, green and blue, balanced by the matte blacks and whites that run throughout the piece. | | | Certified Member of EBSQ Self-Representing Artists | | |
