Description:Wasteland" is a 62k color JPEG image whose dimensions are 800 x 400. "Wasteland" was inspired by a half-remembered article I read years ago on the storage of radioactive waste. Radioactive waste can remain hazardous for thousands of years, so a way must be found to keep people away from storage sites for that period of time. Unfortunately, traditional warning signs won't suffice, since language can change radically in only a few centuries. (Compare Old English to modern English and you'll see what I mean.) Even symbolic warning signs won't do the trick, since symbols also change meaning over the centuries. The article looked at several ways to get around this, including automated defense systems and deliberately forming a religion whose priests would declare the storage sites taboo.
