We want to create a loose video snapshot/yearbook/documentary about WHO net-"artists" are in 1996, why they do what they do and the circumstances/environments in which they inter-react. This "day in the life of" type of project has been kicked around on the OTIS/SITO Mailing List several times and is now gurgling into some primitive form of existance.Prompted by the third anniversary of SITO on the net and the convergence of (at least) four SITOids in Omaha, Nebraska on Feb. 17-20th, 96 Hours is an attempt to chronicle something of the distant but terribly meaningful, artily collaborative and utterly personal relationships that evolve over the net and projects such as SITO. The hope is to capture a snapshot and overview of what's going on with net-art in general and SITO in specific. Initially suggested as an episode of an Omaha-area public-access program "They Call it Art" (an art interview show), the idea nearly simultaneously exploded in my head to make it a "collaborative" documentary reaching far and wide for the input of ALL concerned. All SITOids are invited to interview themselves and other net-artists, on video, during the 96 hour love fest. Video can include interviews (duh), examples of work, improvised collaborative long-distance phone-tag performance art, speculative ranting, screaming, tours of studios, long drawn-out shower scenes, collaborative work created on-screen (time-lapse or real-time), improvised music, birthday wishes to SITO, large burning wicker things and whatever else you think of to chronicle your state of mind, body and spirit in this day and age.
The resulting video will be edited (by you or us) and compiled onto a tape to be made available to whoever wants it (for cost of tape and postage).
