Description:A charcoal drawing from a few years ago. I learned how to make charcoal from a great artist, Gene Pizzuto. Oregon Maple is cut thin on a bandsaw, wrapped in aluminum foil a few thicknesses, trussed with wire ( to minimize warping ) and baked under the ashes in a wood fire for two or three hours. A nice soft medium black charcoal is the result. My brother David is responsible for making the stuff since he has a bandsaw and fireplace!
